Hello Lovelies!
I hope everyone had a great weekend and is having a great week so far! We finally had some cooler weather so I loved it! We went to a family friend's wedding this weekend and it was gorgeous! We had a blast and my step dad was the officiant! He did an amazing job! This weekend I plan on visiting the Riley Days Festival and just getting things done around the house. It's been awhile since we've had free time to work on the house.
I know that I have mentioned several times that I love fall and filled you all in on the activities I do to try and keep busy, but now that it's actually October I am reminded of why I try so hard this month.
I have always been a fan of the fall but I guess I started really making a big deal about making fall, and especially October, special when our family had several unfortunate things happen in October. My uncle died from melanoma in October. A few years later my grandpa died from Leukemia in October. And awhile later my grandma was diagnosed with breast cancer in October. I guess I have always tried to make up for these things by planning October full of fun events to help get everyone's mind off of the past.
I don't tell you all of this to get sympathy but more as an explanation. It is so important to me to make October great to make up for lots of sadness. October is also an awareness month for two very special causes. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, which is very important to me and my family because my grandma lost her battle to breast cancer. It is crucial that we spread awareness and do everything we can to help create a breast cancer free world.
This year the second cause that became part of my life was Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness. This is also focused on in October. It is so important to bring awareness to this. 1 in 4 pregnancies end in the loss of a baby. I was shocked by that statistic. I guess because it is rarely talked about. But for me, it has been incredibly important to talk about it because it helps with the grieving process. The focus in October is to bring awareness to how common this actually is. October 15th specifically is a day of remembrance for pregnancy and infant loss.
I will share more about my story later, but I just wanted to explain a little about why October is a very important month for me and my family and how to bring awareness to this two big causes. Please, if you haven't already, educate yourself and do what you can to help. Whether it's by donating, volunteering, or just being there for someone to talk to, no act is too small.
